Just wanted to follow up with an update on the credit and caption information. What Cannupa has told us we should do is keep his name as the only artist credit, and include a longer note about collaborators in any context where details and credits would be given. So, for example, in a publication only Cannupa’s name would appear on a plate, but the note about collaborators would appear on a detailed checklist. Additionally, Cannupa has decided to revise the title to better reflect his authorship, so the work should now be titled The One Who Checks & The One Who Balances (Return of the Warrior Twins).

The regalia The One Who Checks & The One Who Balances by artist Cannupa Hanska Luger is seen here in a performative action ofpolitical resistance to extractive industry, documented on Dinétah (Navajo Nation, AZ) by photographer Chip Thomas. This work was originally exhibited as a wheat paste mural installation (Lazy Stitch, UCCS GOCA 2018). Here the work is reimagined as a large-scale photographic living mural video loop installation, creating an activation point where the Warrior Twin characters witness and respond to the destruction of the Navajo Generating Station, AZ, documented by Ramble Creative (12/21/2020).
